Day 1 - Departure
Fly from the UK to Tashkent
Day 2 - Arrive in Tashkent
Arrive in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, in the early hours
You'll be met and transferred to your hotel in the city centre to check-in
Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure
Day 3 - Tashkent
Explore the cosmopolitan capital of Tashkent - from the Soviet-ear architecture and ancient mausoleums to the imposing madrassahs and modern monuments
In the evening enjoy a traditional folk music performance
Transfer to the station to board your train
Enjoy dinner on board
Day 4 - Shakhrisabz
Wake up in rural Uzbekistan as the train takes you into the mountains
Take an hour's drive to visit some Uzbek villages and learn a little about their ways and traditions
In the afternoon the train will bring you to Shakrisabz, home to impressive architecture
Back aboard the train you'll enjoy a tasting of Uzbek wines as the train carries you toward your next destination
Day 5 - Bukhara
Explore the one thousand architectural monuments recalling the golden age of the Great Silk Route
You'll also visit the UNESCO-listed Old City
Later in the day you'll head for the courtyard of one of the madrassahs, where you can enjoy a performance of local dances and a presentation of colourful national costumes with music
Spend the night in a local hotel
Day 6 - Bukhara
Visit an incredible collection of architectural wonders
You'll then be driven to the splendid Mir-e-Arab Madrassah and the Samanid Mausoleum
Afterwards tour the massive Ark Citadel, a city within a city; there you'll view the Throne Room and visit the last emir's Summer Residence
Return to the train in the evening and begin travelling towards Khiva
Day 7 - Khiva
Visit the stunning museum-city of Khiva, boasting mighty walls and towering gates; you'll feel as though you've been transported to another world
Take in Khiva's exotic atmosphere on the sightseeing tour
Admire the many palaces, mosques, minarets, mausoleums and madrassahs
In the afternoon visit the Konya Ark Citadel and the Islam Hodha Minaret
Board the train in the evening and travel towards your next destination
Day 8 - Samarkand
Spend the day exploring the stunning city of Samarkand, once known as one of the most beautiful and prestigious cities in the world!
Visit the Necropolis of Shah-e-Zinde, where tombs and mausoleums line a narrow street, before visiting the excavation site of ancient Afrosiab
Your last stop will be Registan Square, one of the most notable architectural ensembles in Central Asia
Spend the night in a local hotel
Day 9 - Samarkand
Visit the Ulug Beg Observatory to see the marvellous instruments created for plotting stars centuries ago
Then head to the Bibi Khanum Mosque, a huge building now lying partly in ruins after suffering through multiple earthquakes
Meet some of the city's craftsmen and take a tour of a silk carpet manufactory
Enjoy a visit to an Uzbek family to see paper being made from mulberry bark
Your day will also include a visit to the tomb of Amir Timur, which lies beneath a large turquoise dome
Spend the night in a local hotel
Day 10 - Samarkand to Tashkent
Enjoy a morning at leisure to explore Samarkand and pick up last-minute souvenirs
Board the train and travel back to Tashkent
Arrive in Tashkent in the afternoon and transfer to the hotel for your final night
Day 11 - Fly to the UK
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK
